Massive GCHQ Travel Budget
UK's largest intel agency flies staff up to 60MN KMs annually – despite having no OFFICIAL overseas office (Report)
The equivalent to 1,500 trips around the world since 2013 – the GCHQ won't be passing any 'green' tests with those carbon emissions. (Declassified)
GCHQ emitted an average of 11,116 tons of greenhouse gases on staff travel – of which 90% was air travel.
The figure has raised questions over the scale of potential global ops, which remain top secret – the agency collects intelligence mainly electronically.
GCHQ officially have only 5 sites, all based in the UK. However, Edward Snowden whistleblower revelations showed that they operated 3 sites across the Gulf state of Oman, several in Cyprus, one in Berlin, as well as one on Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean.
