I once had a weird text message exchange with my mother. We were talking about knowledge, and my head was all full of mathematics at the time. I was enthusing about how important knowledge was, and I desperately wanted her to see some idea I was trying to explain. It ended when she said "Well I know enough to appreciate beauty" as if that was all she wanted out of life. So I asked her "What is it that you need to know in order to appreciate beauty?" And that was the end of our discussion. She didn't want to continue texting me, she said. It was too fiddly and stressful. I remember once asking about a Picasso print from the blue period, of a nude woman sitting.

I had asked her about it when I was a kid. It wasn't the color I objected to so much. What upset me was that the outlines of her body were in crude heavy black brush strokes.

I would love to have an accurate color print of that picture. I googled it once, but none of the images I saw seemed to me to be the right shade of blue that my parents' print had. But it is probably just that my parents' was not well-matched color and only 2' by 3'. I suspect that the original is bigger. See Art Is Not Content.

She told me once about a religious experience she had, of understanding everything and seeing a beautiful world. But she said "It was just a momentary illusion. It didn't last. Everything went back to its ordinary drab grayness, ..." I now know why that was. It was because the culture she was born into could not sustain perception like that. It is sick, fucked, wrong, damaged, broken, useless and boring and it destroys women's mind.
