It didn't work because the mass of the HP equipment stack on top of the clocks was not evenly distributed between them? Usually the power-supplies are on the same side of the cases, so maybe that's why the C-field (9:24) was drifting? See The Action Lab - Ulexite (How Does Television Stone Work?)
