Why I Can't Do Anything Useful Here

It's because the Internet is only available via mobile data: there's no WiFi and the nearest base station is a long way away. So the phone uses a lot of power to get a connection. The problem is the generator for charging phones only runs for a couple of hours a day which is typically not enough to fully charge the battery on this phone.
