The Trap

It's sprung, gentlemen.

This was broadcast on BBC2 Television in 2007. There is a clip very obviously missing at 2:28 which, according to a comment, went like this:

This was CUT out from the intro at 2:28  - 'This is a series of films about how this strange & paradoxical world came to be created. It begins in the dark & frightening days of the cold war & it will show that what we have today is a very narrow & peculiar idea of freedom which was born out of the paranoia of that time. It is based on an image of human beings as selfish isolated & suspicious creatures who constantly monitor & strategise against each other. The film will show how politicians & scientists came to believe how this idea of human nature could be the basis of a new free society. But what none of them would realise, was that within this dark & distrustful vision lay the seeds of a new & revolutionary system of social control. It would go on to use the language of freedom but in reality it would entrap us & our leaders in a narrow & empty world.

It wasn't an accident. It was deliberate.
