Kau'be'nag'wii'wiss: Chief White Cloud/John Smith - Chippewa Ceremonial Chief - Cass Lake, Minn. USA

This is a video for: "Kau'be'nag'wii'wiss" (a.k.a.: Chief White Cloud / John Smith) a Chippewa Ceremonial Chief and famous 138 year old man, who lived in Cass Lake, Minnesota, USA.

"Kah-be-nag-wii-wIss"(a.k.a.: "Ga-Be-Nah-Gewn-Wonce", "White Wolf", Elder John Smith) was said by "some people", to have been born into this world, sometime, in the year of 1822, but, "many other people" have alledged, that he was born, in 1784. He crossed-over, one last time to the Spirit world, on February 6th 1922, making him 138 years old, at the time of his death, after fighting a severe bout of pneumonia. Chief White Wolf is a Chippewa (Ojibway) man, who lived, near the Cass Lake area, in Minnesota, during the 1800's and early 1900's. In 1920, two years before his death, he appeared as the main feature in a motion picture exhibition, that toured the US, featuring various Indigenous American Elders. The motion picture exhibition was called: “Recollections of Ga-be-nah-gewn-wonce” and as it toured the country it made him well-known, across all of the United States. Local photographers, notably C.N. Christensen of Cass Lake, used him as a model for numerous stylized images of Ojibwe' life, which were widely distributed as cabinet photos and postcards. He was known, to travel for free, on the trains running through the Reservation, selling his photo to passengers and becoming something of an attraction or, celebrity. A year before his death he became totally blind but, his mind remained clear and he often recalled the days when he was a scout for the Chippewa Nation, in the wars against the Sioux. He also remembered battles of the "War of 1812". Kah-be-nag-wii-wIss (Chief White Cloud) was said by many people, to have also been a "very strong Medicine Man". This might also have been a factor of his long life in this world, his ability to talk easily with people of all backgrounds, his talent of crosssing water routes without a boat ... and many of his other unique talents. Whether he lived in this world to 100 or, 138 years of age, it is pretty obvious, how special that this Elder was, to many people. (It should be the same, for all the Elders.)

There are also videos in this channel for many more North, South & Central American & World Tribes & First Nations, Chiefs, Legends, Residential Schools, Elders, Historical Events, Indigenous Concerns, Quotes, Environmental Youth Activists.. and much more.
