Geoffrey Robertson On The UK Request for Assurances on the Treatment of Julian Assange if he is Extradited
He thinks the UK High Court's demand that Assange's trial will not be prejudiced on account of him being an Australian rather a US citizen is tantamount to them demanding that Assange's rights will include the First Amendment which would seriously undermine the case they have presented against him, where the presumption is that as a non-US citizen he is not entitled to any constitutional rights:
The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prevents the government from making laws respecting an establishment of religion; prohibiting the free exercise of religion; or abridging the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of assembly, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.
