Air India Flight 171 Crash Speculation
Well, it's looking at best as though many people are not convinced that the preliminary report shows that the investigation is being conducted sufficiently thoroughly. See Juan Browne on the Air India 787 Preliminary Accident Report.
It turns out that there's a reason why Juan Browne's very first question was about the RAT deployment: there's a history of it on 787s. Also, it turns out that there are many reasons not to assume that the fuel cut-off switch transitions recorded on the EAFR necessarily correspond to the physical switch actuation by the pilot. Jeremy Thompson has looked into how power-supply and battery charging circuit failures could interact in such a way. His analysis is based on this document, and some details from the investigation that resulted in the 2017 Boeing 787 grounding.
He and many others think that the original battery problems were not fully addressed.
Subscribe to Jeremy John Thompson,
People are also very suspicious about the RAT deployment occurring before the fuel cut-off switches. Some think it may have been an electrical failure caused by water in the electronics bay which slopped back when the aircraft rotated off the runway.
