Everything has to be demonstrated to be commercially viable first. But if you're planning on generating gigawatts of power for AI then you don't need to demonstrate anything. And the ironic thing is that because so much effort goes into making shitty little AI chatbots instead of decent communications systems we don't have the necessary software infrastructure to support proper research and development.
