5:29 That's a company called VFS Global. They sub-contract visa administration for a large number of countries. Not only visas, they also handle, for example, the passport renewal process for South Africans resident outside the country. Their IT skills are apalling. Their systems barely work at all, and they aren't able to provide adequate manual backup. It's almost certainly incompetence rather than deliberate, but they are wide open to abuse by others because their systems are so insecure. But for these governments who cannot even maintain an honorary consulate in most other countries they are the only option. It is the IT industry that is to blame for this, and the Universities. I used to develop systems such as these, and I worked at a Uiversity for fifteen years. For that I am deeply ashamed!

Using Pipewire to Make A Music Synthesizer

Usually you don't notice, but if you play a pure sine tone then you can easily hear the distortion. If you want to play with pipewire from C on Ubuntu 24.04 then it's really easy. The pipewire tutorials and examples can be compiled and run if you just first install the pipewire-0.3-dev package with sudo apt install libpipewire-0.3-dev But the API is sooo far away from pluggable, typed streams that I find it quite depressing.
