I got here because I thought about what I was saying in this video about how, if you know there is something there, then you can de-focus your gaze and see the pattern. Jeremy Narby elevated this to an epistemological strategy for his research in anthropology and an inquiry into how indigenous shamans learn, in other words, indigenous epistemology. That "technique" was used by the Incas in reverse to look at the Sun. They had these things some people called Mirar al Sol which were disks of copper or sometimes silver with a long needle like a handle and they were pierced so that you could look into the reflection of the sun off water and watch the sunspots or CME's, I suppose.
