It does, perhaps, explain why the flight recorder was located 1,000 feet away, because the wreckage was spread over a distance of 1,000 feet: "The wreckage, from the first impact point till the last identified aircraft item, was distributed in [sic] an area of approx. 1000 ft x 400 ft". So the tail section impacted first and that's where they found the aft EAFR.

Now the Internet of Experts is speculating that it was pilot error/insanity, but there is going to have to be a long and very difficult cyber-forensic investigation of the software systems in the switch sensors and the cockpit data recorders, because they have to rule out sabotage. There's a company in Israel that are experts in this kind of whole-system security analysis, because they have been doing it at Tel Aviv airport for years. I saw a video about it a few years ago, but I can't find it now. As I recall they analysed the whole system, including maintenance and parts supply, so they would have analysed the possibility of software sabotage too. These switches, for all their bulk, are only signalling devices that indicate the pilot's intentions to the computer system that actually controls the plane, so everything depends on software, and it's really, really hard to "see" software, never mind to "see" that is was working correctly [or as intended by the designers].
