There's nothing wrong with doing what you love to do for its own sake. If you really put your heart and soul into it then it is transformative, and it transforms you as much as it does anyone else. That was my experience at any rate. And it all really took off when I finally had enough money saved up to concentrate on doing what I really wanted to do. That was a lot of apparently quite different things in my case. I was climbing mountains, learning about living in a foreign country (Bolivia) and studying all the things I found most perplexing in mathematics and computing. And it all came together impressively quickly for me. That said, a whole of things came apart at the same time. I got deep vein thrombosis and nearly died! Then my friends and family disowned me, ... then I ran out of money and was literally starving, ... But I still wanted to study and write more than anything else, so I just carried on, ... And I'm still doing the same twelve years later, except without the resources or security that I had when I started in 2009. I just do the best I can and hope that others with the wherewithal to actually make these ideas of mine concrete things, pick up some and run with them.

I also just took this photo of Rafael Gonzales, born here in Tecate, B.C., who told me about a spring near here called Agua Fría , half way from Tecate to Loma Tova , where, a few decades ago, people used to go to have barbecues and stuff, but now he thinks it may be private land.
